So this is my disclaimer. My intention in writing these reviews is not to find out who the best musician is, or what album every fan of rock & roll should have, and not even to attribute a bands importance in music history. I know far too little about music’s pioneers to be able to place a band in its “appropriate place” among the throngs of musicians in this last century. I am simply too young and have not had enough time to hear everything I would’ve liked to have heard by now. But I don’t think I’ll ever get to that point anyway so I’m just going to start now to enlighten the poor unfortunate souls who have nothing better to do than read what I have to say about music which I deem neither important nor necessarily good for others to listen to.
I do, however, have a wide range of music that I listen to including classic rock, punk rock, modern rock, alternative, new wave, R &B, hip hop, rap, industrial, goth rock, ethereal, and some other fringe artists which don’t belong to any of these categories which makes my reviews semi-unique. In short, I will listen to anything that sounds “good”. Again, “good” is what I think is good, not what the public thinks is good, or the radio stations, or even history books. What is “good” to me is something that either is going to rock, have good rhymes, good beats, be perfect for a particular type of mood, or I simply think it’s a masterpiece and a pure work of genius (see Pink Floyd).
There are, of course, some bands and genres that I would consider myself a very good source on. Punk Rock (especially old school 70’s and 80’s bands), Goth Rock (again, old school 80’s bands), and individual bands like Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Oingo Boingo, and The Revolting Cocks. I won’t say anything more but I wanted to make it clear that I do wish I knew more Bob Dylan, or Rolling Stones, or early R & B and soul, or more underground hip hop, or protopunk and art-rock. But the fact remains that what I don’t know about I can’t review nor can I provide an “authoritative” claim about where music belongs in its “appropriate” place. I will however tell you what I think is good, which if you ask me, is worth listening to. Just a warning…
